Section in the Spotlight November 2012

This month’s Section in the Spotlight is not only a section in a very sunny and beautiful country; it is as well a section celebrating 20 years in ESN this year! Congrats to ESN Athens AUEB! ESN Athens AUEB was founded already back in 1992 by outgoing students coming back from their Erasmus exchange. They have had the luck to have two of their members to serve as the President of ESN International in both 1996 and 1997. This section really focuses on the quality of their members and they try to set their minds free in order to be more motivated, creative and productive.

15:25 - It’s ERASMUS time in Romania

This year celebrations of the ERASMUS programme are taking place all around Europe! In Romania, not only they celebrated 25 years since the launch of the programme, but also 15 years since Romanian students are able to go abroad on ERASMUS.

Non-Formal Education helps employability of young people, research finds

Among the six soft skills mostly demanded by employers, five are also among those developed through involvement in youth organisations: communication, team work, decision-making, organisational skills and self-confidence.

Through consultation with 245 youth organisations, a survey with over 1,300 young people and focus groups with employers from across Europe this research assesses whether the competences and skills obtained through non-formal education in youth organisations contribute to the employability of young people.

Fraternite 2020 Petition

The Fraternite 2020 petition aims at giving more EU citizens the opportunity to spend time in another member state, give them a better chance to 'broaden their horizons' and develop a European identity. They ask for more funds available for EU exchange programmes, develop more skills among the participants, and track progress in the field of mobility through better monitoring.

EC adopts an amending budget to guarantee Erasmus funds

The Commission has adopted an amending budget to enable it to meet its legal obligations towards beneficiaries of EU funds. This is in line with the joint statement the Council and the European parliament adopted the day the EU budget for 2012 was adopted inviting the Commission to request additional money "in an amending budget if the appropriations entered in the 2012 budget are insufficient to cover expenditure".
