Topic of the month

Section in the Spotlight

Through the project the local ESN sections get the possibility to show their amazing work and their accomplishments and serve as best-practice-examples for the rest of the network.
Each month the jury chooses and honors one section, which will be promoted on the Homepage, the Newsletter and the eXpress magazine and can even win small prizes.
The sections are selected for their active involvement in ESN, their excellent work for international students and for spreading the ESN spirit – pallomeri.
The application is open until the 20th of each month and the winner is announced on the 1st of the following month. What are you waiting for? Show us that your section deserves to be in the spotlight!

Erasmus: Record number of students receive EU grants for study and training abroad

More than 213 000 students received 'Erasmus' grants to study or train abroad during the 2009/10 academic year - a new record and 7.4% increase on the previous year's figure.

Erasmus is the world's most successful student exchange programme and, on current trends, the EU will reach its target of supporting 3 million European students by 2012/13 since the programme's launch in 1987. The three most popular destinations for students in 2009/10 were Spain, France and the United Kingdom. Spain sent the largest number of students abroad, followed by France and Germany. 61% of Erasmus students were female in the year in question. The EU invested € 415 million in Erasmus in 2009/10.

  • ESN and the Youth on the Move Card Consultation
ESN strongly believes in the idea of a European Youth on the Move card, since ESN's ideals are linked to youth mobility and internationalisation. The Youth on the Move card is needed in order to increase the sense of belongingness to the European community, something that the Erasmus Programme and thus the Erasmus Student Card has successfully managed to do until today. Having a commonly labeled card will help the European Youth feel part of a whole as not only will it be officially recognised by the member-states as an indicator of youth (thus giving access to multiple benefits) but will also help towards the enhancement of youth mobility and participation as well as in fostering the European Citizenship. Do you want to read the full opinion and the suggestions of ESN about the Youth on the Move Card? Take a look at esn.org!
