Topic of the month

Section in the spotlight – ESN Pilsen (Czech Republic)

The first Section in the Spotlight has been chosen: It is ESN Pilsen from Czech Republic who got our attention thanks to their great team feeling in the section and the latest organised event a Student Ball. The section is taking good care of their International students through the whole semester and has a strong buddy network. Cooperation with other student organisations helps the section to include local students in the section activities.
For further information on the sections success story published on esn.org.

If your section wants to be the next in the Spotlight, then just apply! Project description and application form can be found on the website.

PRESS RELEASE: Youth demand education and poverty targets back in Europe 2020 Strategy

European youth and student organisations are concerned after poverty and education targets seem to have been dropped from the European Union’s discussion on the 'Europe 2020 Strategy for sustainable growth and jobs' and urge EU leaders to include these targets back when the European Council meets again to discuss the Strategy in June.

The organisations' leaders of European Youth Forum, ESU, OBESSU, AEGEE and ESN agree to send a common message to the EU: ”The Lisbon Strategy clearly failed at making Europe the most dynamic knowledge-based economy by 2010. If the follow-up strategy has nothing more than good wishes for better education and more social cohesion, Europe will not be much further in 2020 than we were when starting the Lisbon Strategy over 10 years ago.”

Europe besides ESN

Germany calls off EU summit talks on education

Herman Van Rompuy, president of the European Council, removed a debate about education targets in the proposed 'Europe 2020' strategy from the agenda of an EU summit meeting after Germany expressed concerns that the proposed EU objective would step on its federal competences.

The move has angered European Commission President José Manuel Barroso who is insisting that skills are a key part of restoring competitiveness.
