    Birthday celebrations in Ghent

Twenty years ago, erasmus students of the first generation put their heads together in Ghent and decided upon the formation of an international network to support international exchange. Now, it's time to evaluate, and just as importantly, to celebrate twenty years of existence and growth. Check the website www.esncelebrates.be.

    Get involved! ESN in Brussels

    Happy Birthday!

It is the beginning of the new semester and the start of the new ESN year. ESN is celebrating his 20th birthday, will your section join in the celebration and organise a event, party or anything else? If yes send us your pictures and videos from your Birthday Party to evs@esn.org.

    Regional Platforms coming...

Regional Platforms are coming closer! Choose one of the regional platform, register and meet other ESN members.

However, the question is - where to meet in 2010? Why not in your town? For more information, contact either your National Representative or vicepresident@esn.org.

Do you want to organise the Cultural Medley 2010?

This summer 40 ESNers met in a beautiful holiday town of Sile (Turkey) and had a chance to see all the culture and history of Istanbul and its surroundings. Do you want to show ESNers your towns history and culture? Be the organizer of Cultural Medley 2010. For more information contact your National Representative or vicepresident@esn.org.

    Europe besides ESN

    Barroso wins second term

In the run-up to the ballot, Barroso had met party leaders to discuss his programme and he gave a speech to the Parliament itself in a bid to win their support and assuage a range of concerns, including the concerns of left-wing members that he pursued too liberal a policy in his first term.

Among the concessions sought by the parties and accepted by Barroso was a demand by the liberal grouping for the creation of a special post for a commissioner for justice, fundamental rights and civil liberties. He also assured party leaders that he would fight for additional funding for the EU and would emphasise the importance of social cohesion, as the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) grouping had wanted.

Erasmus reaches the 2 million students mark

According to new figures, the EU's Erasmus programme for mobility and co-operation in higher education, enabled more than 162 000 European students and 27 000 academics to go abroad to study or teach in the academic year 2007/2008. New opportunities supported through Erasmus included work placements and training abroad for university staff. Overall, more than 182 000 Erasmus students went abroad for a period of studies or a placement. Student exchanges with Erasmus, counting both studies and placements abroad, grew by 5.2 % compared to 2006/07, while the increase for study mobility alone was of 2.1 %. On the basis of these latest figures, it can be assumed that by mid 2009 Erasmus has exceeded the mark of 2 million students.
