3. Topic of the month

Last week, two important written declarations on youth passed in the European Parliament. ESN promoted both of them.

The declarations concerned the following issues :

  1. declaration to devote more attention to youth empowerment in EU policies – which means that in the future, European and national policy-makers should take young people more into account and involve them in a dialogue when preparing policies that would affect them (such as education, mobility, social inclusion, or employment). See more here.
  2. declaration on announcing 2011 as a year of Volunteering

ESN actively participated in campaigns for the both declaration and contributed to their success. Big applause to us and to all young people!

4. What's going on in Europe besides ESN?

On 1 July 2008 France took over the Presidency of the Council of European Union after Slovenia . For the occasion the Eiffel Tower was lit by blue lights and European stars. After half a year the Presidency will be given to the Czech Republic .

The President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, facing the most urgent issues of European Union like the Irish veto to the Lisbon Treaty announced deep changes in building the common Europe . The French Presidency is supposed to respond to the main concerns of Europeans like issues concerning immigration, agriculture and food safety, defence and security.

If you want to learn more about the French Presidency please read here.
