1. ESNLive:Hi all, I hope you had the chance of participating in one of the various Treasure Hunts which took place all over Europe! Here, marked with the blue pin you can see where they were... but if you live too far away, don't worry: you can still check what happened by watching the videos. Congrats to ESN Bochum, that uploaded the first Treasure Hunt video! P.S.: never forget to surf the Galaxy to check what's going on in ESN! 2. ESN International event:ESN RHEGIUM reminds you that the registration for the Cultural Medley 2008 is opened until 21st May 2008. Cultural Medley is an international ESN event during wich people from different countries meet to learn about each other's culture and to get a positive interpersonal exchange (as the same word "Medley" let us understand ). So, first of all, Cultural Medley is culture and fun! But it is also an important opportunity for the host country or town to present itself to ESN, to show its beauties, the things it is famous for and the things it has to offer. People who are interested in participating have to register following the instructions here. Once registered, they will recive an email with the bank account information for the payment; since that moment they have 20 days to pay the paticipation fee (100 Euro for each participant).
3. Topic of the month:Over 100 million Europeans of all ages, beliefs and nationalities are engaged in voluntary activities. Now, five Members of the European Parliament (MEP), with the support of the European Youth Forum (YFJ) and other civil society organisations, have launched a written declaration (30/2008) calling on the EU to declare 2011 the European Year on Volunteering. If half of all MEPs will sign it, it'll become an official demand of the European Parliament. ‘Declaring 2011 the European Year on Volunteering would be a crucial step towards the recognition of volunteers and their organisations as contributors to economic and social cohesion in Europe' highlights Bettina Schwarzmayr, President of the European Youth Forum. The voluntary sector not only contributes to an estimated 5% of national GDP1 levels but also helps to identify and respond to certain needs arising in society. The YFJ and its Member Organisations are actively advocating for setting up guidelines to provide volunteers with adequate protection and recognition when volunteering in any EU country and that offers legal and financial support to organisations to facilitate their activities in this regard.
