1. Free movement - Schengen enlargement. The main sentence which describing Schengen agreement is : EASIER TRANSPORT OF GOODS AND MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE
The Schengen Agreement allows people who are legally present in European countries to move freely without showing passports when they are crossing internal frontiers. Internal frontiers are defined as the national boundaries between the countries taking part in the Schengen Agreement, together with airports and seaports in the case of traffic to and from a Schengen country. Once they have legally entered a Schengen country, those who are not required to have visas can travel freely about the zone for three months at the most. Foreign citizens with residence permits in a Schengen country and whose identities have been properly established can also travel freely in the zone for three months. Any news? According to the Justice and Interior ministers from the European Union,
Switzerland, which is surrounded by EU countries but isn't a member, is expected to join Schengen space next year. What are benefits for Erasmus Students?
What does it mean? Easier and faster student mobility inside EU. 2. ESNLive: WEBTEAM Satellite meetingLittle over one year ago the ESN Satellite project was born as one of the new projects the ESN web team launched. The ESN Satellite is a website template that answers to the common need of ESN sections. Built on top of a widespread content management system, it is packed with features such as latest news, upcoming events, partner lists, photo gallery and much more. To maintain the success of this project, and to improve the Satellite, the
ESN webteam would like to invite you on its first Satellite
meeting, to be held in the headquarters of ESN International in
Brussels , on 15-16th of December 2007. This
entirely free 2-day event will be the chance to establish a closer cooperation
between ESN webmasters around Europe. Its organization will be in the form of
workshops, working on different aspects of the ESN Satellite (more info will be
given soon)to improve the current Satellite 2.0. And to make it even easier for
you to participate in this event we will give away 10 free SkyEurope
vouchers for the first 10 people that register! Pallo-Satellite-meri! Peter, Antonio and Andrea from the ESN Webteam 3. Topic of the month:Winterthur, Switzerland 27th of September, 5 pm: After speeches by the major, principal, main sponsors and our ESN President, it was time for Jonas Epp, head of the OC, to officially open the first Council of National Delegates. With virtual Champagne, a real birthday cake and a long evening in the students Pub, the birthday party continued. How come? One year ago, the "Long term vision" working group proposed to the CNR to establish a further international ESN Event, the CND. It should be a response to the rapid growth of ESN during the last years and involve the National Boards which will play an important role in the future of ESN. Soon after, ESN Winterthur offered to host the first CND and started with the preparation. Work professionally and party professionally The agenda of the CND was similar to a CNR including presentations of the
International Board, discussions about budget, the distribution of AGM places
(an evergreen!), etc. Plus the working groups informed about their work and
plans for the future. An important decision with a lot of media attention (even
in Turkey) was taken on Sunday, as the NR's accepted Azerbaijan (ESN Baku) as a
new Member of ESN. Nevertheless there was time for workshops about specific
topics of National Boards in which the National Delegates could exchange their
opinions and experiences. Looking back Many thanks to the OC of ESN Winterthur: Jonas Epp (Head), Nicole Gerber, Corinne Bryner, Remo Weber, Thomas Thur and Alex Paur!4. What is going on in Europe besides ESN:European Youth Forum Council of Members, another step forward to
voice youth concerns.
Once again, the European Youth Forum (YFJ) gathered representatives from its 95 Member Organisations for the Council of Members meeting (COMEM), an event held twice a year. This time round, 160 delegates got together in Brussels on 9-10th of November. For the first time after being accepted in the Forum, ESN was represented by three delegates: Jelena Brankovic, Davide Capecchi and Giorgio Marinoni. During this Council of Members the Estonian National Youth Council became YFJ full member and the Romanian National Youth Council gained the status of candidate member. At the same time a policy paper on Achieving Equality Between Women & Men and four resolutions (on visa facilitation, conscientious objection, increased consultations and the European Youth Capital) were adopted.
