Erasmus Mundus, supports joint master’s programmes offered in 30 different European countries. To date, Erasmus Mundus has funded 103 flagship Masters Courses in fields as diverse as: animal breeding, coastal management, food science, environmental science, genetics, nanotechnology, photonics, public health, robotics, rural development, space technology, sustainable forestry and tropical medicine.
While varying in academic discipline, these courses were all subject to a highly competitive selection process and have established a reputation of academic excellence. Commonly, Erasmus Mundus masters’ courses maintain: a strong emphasis on quality (of education and applicants), mobility (students study at several European universities in one degree programme) and opportunity (through scholarship funding and highly diverse educational and cultural experiences).
Erasmus Mundus also grants scholarships, principally to non-European students and academics, for specified EM Masters Courses. EMMCs must be offered jointly by a consortium of higher academic institutions in Europe, in at least 3 different EU countries. For each course, students are required to study in at least 2 partner universities in 2 different countries.
More than 200 European universities are currently involved in Erasmus Mundus consortia, including almost all of the continent’s top 100 institutions. Erasmus Mundus started in 2004, and so it is still a young and relatively unknown option. However, its reputation and popularity continue to grow and by the end of this year more than 8000 students and academics from over 100 countries will have received Erasmus Mundus scholarships. The participating universities have all run masters’ programmes separately for many years and courses are constantly evaluated in order to ensure the highest quality of students, staff and curricula.
Those who are Erasmus Mundus students and alumni are very enthusiastic about the time our academic and personal experiences via Erasmus Mundus. Now, we would now like to help other young people find similar opportunities! If you know of any potentially interested or applicable students (or yourself), please forward this information accordingly.
