Twelve years into the Bologna process, European student mobility has not
yet become what many have hoped for. It is still reserved to only a
handful of students and the lucky few who had the chance to study abroad
continue to face recognition and replacement problems after their
exchange.
That is why ‘Ride for Your Rights!’, an initiative of exchange programme
Campus Europae and the Erasmus Student Network, have launched a
Manifesto, calling for the EU institutions, national governments and
universities to take action. Our goal? To tear down the existing
socio-economic barriers that hinder student mobility and to get more
than 20% of all European students become mobile before 2020.
European athletes such as BMX Olympic gold medalist Maris Strombergs,
football freestyler Iya Traore and basketball player Mindaugas
Kuzminskas have already endorsed the ‘Ride for Your Rights!’ project and
its Manifesto. Join them in voicing your support for better and more
student mobility and sign the Manifesto here!
‘Ride for your Rights! It's time to (ex)change
your life’ is a movement which calls out to every person living on this
multicultural and exciting continent. We see it as our fundamental
right and necessity, to be active and mobile students of today's world.
To promote our cause, we will go on a 4000 km bike ride from the Balkans
to Russia to raise awareness of the existing problems for student
mobility.
Campus Europae (CE) is an innovative student exchange programme
which focuses on enabling the mobility of highly educated, multilingual
and engaged European citizens. CE was devised as an exemplary student
exchange programme, designed to foster the idea of European citizenship
amongst university students by exposing them to Europe’s unity and
diversity through a deep understanding of the culture and language of
different countries. Please visit www.campuseuropae.org for more
information.
Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the
biggest non-profit interdisciplinary student associations in Europe,
founded in 1989 for supporting and developing student exchange. ESN is
present in more than 370 Higher Education Institutions from 35
countries. ESN works for the creation of a more mobile and flexible
education environment by supporting and developing student exchanges on
different levels, and providing an intercultural experience also to
those students who cannot access a period abroad ('internationalisation
at home'). More information on www.esn.org
