ESN in EUCIS-LLL

What is EUCIS-LLL?

Mission

The European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning (EUCIS-LLL) promotes European-wide cooperation among civil society organisations. It is made up of 31 European networks active in education and training in order to build a citizen's voice on lifelong learning issues and to propose concrete solutions based on the expertise, the competencies and the experience of its networks' experts and practitioners.

Vision

EUCIS-LLL is a tool to promote a holistic vision of lifelong learning, from cradle to grave, that is not limited to formal education but integrates non-formal and informal learning. By bringing together actors from all sectors and levels of education and training, EUCIS-LLL contributes to an increased flexibility between systems. By encouraging an exchange of knowledge, it aims to build a citizen's voice on education and training issues but also to propose concrete solutions to make lifelong learning a reality for all.

Values

The platform fosters a vision of lifelong learning that promotes equity, social cohesion and active citizenship. It believes that the objectives of education and training should not only be described in terms of employability or economic growth but also as a framework for personal development. It is essential to raise awareness on the fact that lifelong learning should include a large range of learning settings and create more complementarity and continuity between formal, non-formal and informal learning.

Objectives

  •  Pursuing an active dialogue with European institutions.
  •  Enabling exchanges of best practice, experiences and expertise.
  •  Disseminating information on key issues in the lifelong learning sector.
  •  Organising events and developing activities in transversal lifelong learning topics.
  •  Promoting a more democratic, civic and social Europe.

The organisation of EUCIS-LLL

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the highest body of the association. It defines the annual priorities and objectives of the platform and its work programme. Headed by the President, its annual meeting is attended by all its members. The General Assembly convenes once a year during the last months of spring.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the administrative body of the platform. It is composed of 8 people representing member networks. Amongst them, representing the voice of students is Rasmus Åberg, member of Erasmus Student Network. The Committee is in charge of the daily administrative tasks of the association and of the implementation of the work programme adopted by the General Assembly.

Secretariat

The secretariat ensures the day to day management of the platform. It consists of three persons and is based at rue d'Arlon, 25 in Brussels.

ESN & EUCIS-LLL

ESN joined EUCIS-LLL at the General Assembly in May 2011. By cooperating with EUCIS-LLL and its member organisations ESN is able to strengthen its voice in Europe on matters related to Education and Training. By active participation in EUCIS-LLL ESN is able to forward its priorities onto the agenda and together with the other member organisations influence the opinions of policymakers in a desirable direction.

EUCIS-LLL offers ESN a platform from which to interact with other organisations dealing with education, not just youth or student organisations, but actors from across the spectrum of Education and Training. It gives ESN the opportunity to gain further recognition for its work and also gives other organisations the opportunity to learn from ESNs experience and apply it to meet their own challenges. Likewise, ESN is given the opportunity to interact with organisations, that many times operate in a different environment compared to ESN, but whose special knowledge and experience can be valuable, not least by familiarizing ESN with the entire scope of the education sector.

ESN has two liaison officers to EUCIS-LLL. Their job is to ensure  the participation and contribution of ESN in EUCIS-LLL.They work closely with the International Board and the President. They communicate ESNs policy positions to EUCIS-LLL and engage in the wider discussion. The liaison officers are the main communication channel between EUCIS-LLL and the members of Erasmus Student Network.

If you have any questions about the membership of ESN in EUCIS-LLL please don’t hesitate to contact our liaison officers at liaison@esn.org.

You can also contact EUCIS-LLL directly at director@eucis-lll.eu.
